Durrus is situated 6 miles from Bantry, and is commonly known as the gateway to the world famous Sheepshead Way. A lively village, well populated with bars, shops and restaurants, it is a popular spot for holidaymakers wishing to visit the beaches and walkways of the Mizen Peninsula and Dunmanus Bay.
Together with the nearby villages of Kilcrohane and Ahakista, Durrus boasts a thriving local community with a lively local celebrity, Graham Norton living nearby.
The Sheeps Head Way is a 150km walking route located on the narrow Sheeps Head peninsula in West Cork between Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay. The route also extends eastwards from Bantry to Drimoleague ( www.drimoleaguewalkway.com ) and Gougane Barra offering further walking opportunities in the region. The region won a European Destination of Excellence Award in 2009, and is host to over a hundred thousand visitors each year.
