BANTRY 3-05 BARRYROE 0-5
For the second week in a row Bantry Blues experienced the sweet taste of success when the U16 hurlers won the West Cork B Championship, overcoming Barryroe in Ballinacarriga on Tuesday, August 23rd. In a ground that has become a happy hunting ground of late for Blues hurlers, they got off to the ideal start when Sean O’Leary settled the team with a pointed free. Barryroe equalised but Brian O’Regan shot Bantry back into
a one point lead. Blues continued to push forward and were rewarded when Tim Foley hit the net. Barryroe pointed again but Sean O’Leary knocked over a free to put Bantry into a half time lead of 1-3 to two points. The expected fightback from Barryroe came in the shape of two points after half time but Blues responded well with points from Sean O’Leary and Anthony Hanley and a fine long range effort from Shane McCarthy.
Barryroe converted a free with what proved to be their last score of the game. Sean O’Leary proved accurate with two more frees and Anthony Hanley finished to the net from close range. The game was effectively over when Brian O’Regan goaled with an overhead flick near the end, leaving the final score: Bantry Blues 3-08, Barryroe 0-5.
Despite the scoreline this was a very entertaining game with the exchanges lively throughout the contest. In the goals Cathal McCarthy was rocksteady, James Foley at full back swept up, especially in the first half. Jimmy O’Leary played a captains role at the heart of defence and the midfield pair of Sean O’Leary and Gerald O’Sullivan dominated their area. In the forwards everyone played their part, Brian O’Regan and Peter Kelleher being especially dangerous, along with Shane McCarthy when he came on.

U14 COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP BANTRY 3-09 GLENVILL 3-15
After looking good for long periods of the game, Bantry U14 footballers went out of the county championship to Glenville at semi-final stage on Thursday evening, August 25th in Ballincollig. Blues were slow to get into the game and went 1-4 down before Arthur Coakley’s well taken goal to get his side off the mark. A period of Bantry dominance followed during which they scored 2-5 to a single point from Glenville. Tim Foley scored 1-4 of that including a penalty and a free; Shane McCarthy goaled soccer style and Patrick Casey kicked a fine point. With a two goal lead and looking good, Bantry saw that reduced by a pointed free from Glenville, followed by a dubious penalty just before half time. Shane McCarthy pulled a point back to leave the score at the break: Bantry Blues 3-6, Glenville 2-6. From the restart the East Cork side pulled back 1-1 in a short time. Tim Foley and Shane McCarthy replied with points for the Blues. Glenville were now getting on top in the key areas and scored two quick points. Arthur Coakley hit one for Bantry but it proved to be
Blues last score as Glenville scored six unanswered points to pull away. Final score:
Bantry Blues 3-9, Glenville 3-15. In the proverbial game of two halves Bantry went down to a well balanced side who finished the game stronger. There were good displays for the Blues from Ronan O’Mahony and Owen O’Flynn, midfielders Killian O’Sullivan and Tim Foley and Arthur Coakley and Shane McCarthy up front.
